Given the Infinite

ENTER THE WORLD OF EYDTEA

The Earth of the Old Kings lies long buried under the ashes of genetic warfare, drowned by unbridled scientific ambition, and risen upon its grave is an age of newfound powers.

Yet, these are the last days. Under the watchful eyes of the Gods, the four kingdoms, inhabited by races of humans with genetically enhanced abilities - strength, intelligence, unnatural youth, dimensional shift - all now slouch towards their final judgement; to live on into the infinite, or to be deemed unworthy and condemned to become a frozen relic in the void.

Kaeleth Philippa, a man of the Crown service who has abandoned his King in the wake of an act of shocking cruelty, now seeking a quiet retirement... until fate and duty compel him towards chaos.

Pristenne Verity, a city journalist of wealth and influence who must choose whether to risk life as she knows it in the name of justice, and discovers a wide and mysterious world beyond her desk.

Gambol Galrey, a talkative spy lured to a land foreign to him, caught by the Crown and faced with an impossible task to thieve from a coilbound God to spare his own life.

Gloria Leigh, an insurrectionist who will stop at nothing to lead her band into the fray to save her brother, and exact grave justice on any and all who serve the King.

Rigel Lor'End, a forgotten prince, barred from succession by his father that he might only watch on the sidelines as the kingdom of his bloodline falls to madness. But for how long?

Shen Mekhis, militia commander of a people ravaged by slavery, driven by a past of unconscionable cruelty in the name of justice, and advancing now to either annihilation or absolution.

Their fates are woven together from one end of the world to the other, and the choices they make, along with those of all who live beneath the omniscient gaze of the Gods, will determine the destiny of all.

Below the great and devastating magics of heroes, the leadership of commanders and kings, the hateful scars of war, and the chains of slavery, there is hidden only one righteous path; the question is only whether it deserves to be found.

About the Author

I'm CJA Olesen, an English teacher and educational game developer with a love of music, art, and computing. The world of Eydtea has existed in my mind since my early childhood, gradually developing from its foundations as a fantasy of magic, kings, and castles that sprouts from a wartorn earth, to one furnished with all the complexities of adulthood. Eydtea was often my home, an escape from the harsher aspects of reality. Eventually, those aspects bled into the world itself, growing with me, always in the back of my mind to give a framework to the abstract; forgiveness, torment, heroism, and the apparent absence of God. It is with mixed feelings that I finally bring it to light, as it is the last thing I ever expected to share.

This tale has a beginning, a middle, and, in fact, an end, as ensuring all three were well-planned ahead of time was some of the best advice of my high-school English teacher.

While I'm not opposed to the use of AI as a tool where it improves the quality and framework of art, and use it regularly in my day job, Given the Infinite represents a story about the value of human people and as such must be written by a real human person.

Here's wishing you enjoy Book 1 enough that Books 2 & 3 might find a home on a shelf, as opposed to their condemnation to the ether of the network (although, if that were to happen, the environment would doubtlessly be thankful).
